Olympic Creed:

The first bishop of Pennsylvania, Ethelbert Talbot, made a speech that later inspired Pierre de Coubertin. He spoke at a ceremony held in 1908 by the British government, relying on these words and making a slight change in them, which later became known as the Olympic creed. Which is:

“The important thing in life is not the triumph, but the fight; the essential thing is not to have won, but to have fought well.”

Olympic Motto:

The main motto of the Olympics is derived from Latin words. And it goes like this: Citius, Altius, Fortius. Which in English means faster, higher and stronger, respectively. The slogan was first used in 1881 by a Dominican priest named Henri Didon, while he was speaking at the opening of a sporting event.

Pierre de Coubertin was also present that day. This led him to put the slogan at the forefront of the Olympic movement in 1894 and to oblige everyone to adhere to it, not only technically but also morally.

But at the International Olympic Committee meeting on July 20, 2021, the Olympic slogan underwent a slight change. This change pointed to the importance of solidarity in the Olympics. Thus, the Olympic motto was changed to “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter”, which is called “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together” in English.
