Colors In Nature

There are scientific explanations for different colors that things appear in, around nature. We’re not going to go deep into science. But we will talk about some of these reasons briefly. For example, Carotenoids, chlorophyll, and anthocyanin are some of the most usual molecules in nature. Therefore, these molecules are responsible for three colors that we frequently see: orange, green, and purple. Black isn’t in this category; thus, some things else must cause the black color.

Aurora borealis, northern lights

Black is the absence of light (when all or most of incoming light is absorbed). Therefore, black hue can exist without any light, unlike white and other colors. Nonetheless, when technically speaking, black and white are hues, not colors.

Color Psychology

What does Black symbolize?
Color psychology suggests that black is a symbolic color of mystery, power, elegance, and sophistication. But, there are also negative associations related to the color like sadness, grief, or anger. Despite all that, black is a favorite color for a large number of people, and it’s a first choice for many occasions. And black also represents formality.

Black Sand Beach

In my opinion, the black sand beach is a wonder in nature. Black sand beaches are not as common as you might assume, yet they exist.

Where can you find a black sand beach?
In some destinations like Hawaii, Iceland, the Canary Islands, you can see the black sand beach with your own eyes.

Why is the sand black?
The Black sand is a result of eroded volcanic material such as lava, basalt rocks, and other dark-colored rocks and minerals; therefore, most of these beaches are near places where volcanic activities happen.

Black In Nature: Animals

There are also black animals in nature. These animals are either completely black like the black panther or, some parts of their body are black.

Black Panther

(the following paragraph belongs to Wikipedia)

A black panther is the melanistic color variant of the leopard (Panthera pardus) and the jaguar (Panthera onca). Black panthers of both species have excess black pigments, but their typical rosettes are also present. They have been documented mainly in tropical forests, with black leopards in Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, and Java, and black jaguars in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Paraguay.

A recessive allele in the leopard is the cause of melanism. And in the jaguar by a dominant allele.

The Black bear

The black bear is chiefly native to Alaska, some parts of Canada, and also the United States. Black bears have a versatile diet; therefore, they can adapt to life in various types of habitats. So, it shouldn’t be hard for them to find food.

Black Birds

Panthers and bears are not the only animals around nature. Also, there are diverse species of black birds like American Crow, Common Raven, European Starling, and Common Grackle.

American crow

This American crow is all black with iridescent feathers. It looks much like other all-black corvids. You can easily distinguish them from the common raven because American crows are smaller than the fish crow.

Common raven

The common raven also goes by the name Corvus corax. Once more, the common raven is an all-black passerine bird.

European starling

The starlings are passerine birds from small to medium-sized. So, they go into the Sturnidae category.

Common grackle

The common grackles are large icterids. And they mainly live in parts of North America. It also has three subspecies. The adult common grackle has a long and dark bill, and pale yellow eyes. it as well, has a long tail.

Flowers and Plants

Black flowers and plants do not naturally grow in nature. So, there isn’t any true black flower. However, there are some that have a pure dark hue, and make them look nearly black. But, with the help of calculated cultivating and breeding there can be black flowers. Here are some examples:

Black Roses

Black Beauty’ Pansy

Black Cat’ Petunia – Black Petunia Flower

Queen of the Night’ Tulip
